Police: No charges filed after fatal shooting in Arlington Heights apartment

No charges will be filed against the man who shot and killed a Chicago man in an Arlington Heights apartment on Sunday, police said Monday.

Arlington Heights police said the deceased – identified Monday as 33-year-old Jimmie Jackson Franklin of Chicago – illegally entered the Arbor Lakes Apartments near Bloomington Avenue and Lake-Cook Road, where a woman who had obtained a restraining order against him lives.

Franklin entered the woman’s apartment around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday and immediately attacked a male guest, “quickly gaining a position of physical superiority,” a police press release said.

The guest took out a handgun and fired one shot, striking Franklin’s upper body, police said, adding that the gun owner had a valid license to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Illinois.

An autopsy performed Monday by the Cook County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Franklin died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
