Ryan Reynolds jokes that daughter Betty attacked ‘Uncle’ Hugh Jackman (exclusive)

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman dressed up for the New York premiere of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” where they chatted with Mona Kosar Abdi of “Extra.”

Ryan’s eldest daughter James, 9, saw a rough cut before the premiere and he chats about her reaction!

He said: “She saw the rough cut too. So many effects and all that stuff weren’t finished, but she just had the best time, and they all have… they’re all kind of in love with Uncle Hughey here, so that worked out pretty well. He was attacked backstage by Betty, who thinks she’s got claws, so she goes at him. I actually have to give her a little time out.”

Hugh joked, “I think she thinks I have healing powers.”

There were rumors that Ryan’s wife Blake Lively would appear in the film as Lady Deadpool, but he kept the secret!

He replied, “You’re going to get every single answer you ever wanted to hear about this movie tonight.”

Although they have been playing their iconic characters for years, the guys said they are “always” nervous about audience reactions to their films.

Hugh said, “That’s why we do it. We do it for them.”

Ryan added, “Our job is primarily to make difficult things look easy… That’s kind of what we do here. We make difficult things look easy so other people can have fun doing them.”

Ryan stressed: “At the end of the day, life is not easy for so many people out there for so many years. To make a film that is designed solely to bring joy and excitement to audiences is one of the best feelings in the world.”

Hugh showed Ryan some affection, saying, “Ryan and our director Shawn (Levy) and co-producer, co-writers, those guys bled. We all bled for this movie, (but) these guys led from the front. So yeah, we’re nervous. If you’re not nervous, you need to get out of here.”

Ryan admitted that writing dialogue for Wolverine was “one of the scariest things I’ve ever done creatively.”

He praised Hugh, saying, “Hugh was, you know, I would describe it as a kind of divining rod for the good stuff, and he really helped… there were things he wanted to explore with the character that we’ve always wondered about in 24 years, but in this film we get an answer, which I think is a really unique opportunity.”
