Suspect arrested after fatal burglary; victim identified

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man suspected of shooting a woman during a robbery in Talmadge last week has been arrested, authorities said.

Robert Madden, 35, was arrested on suspicion of murder, Lt. Daniel Meyer of the San Diego Police Department said in a news release Monday.

The shooting occurred on Monday, July 15, at an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Euclid Avenue.

Officers found a 38-year-old woman named Senait Legesse dead at the scene with at least one gunshot wound, police said.

Authorities determined that a 59-year-old man with Legesse was in his apartment when an unknown suspect armed with a firearm entered the apartment and robbed the man of his wallet.

“The victim attempted to intervene in the robbery and was shot by the suspect,” Meyer said. “The suspect then fled on foot.”

Madden was arrested Friday morning at 4900 University Avenue, according to SDPD. His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
