Man and mother from Unadilla arrested after assault in Otego

UNADILLA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — An Unadilla man and his mother face multiple charges after the Otsego County Sheriff arrested him on multiple counts of sexual assault.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla was the subject of a sexual abuse investigation in and around the city of Otsego. The investigation revealed that Buzie allegedly sexually abused children under the age of 13 in various forms on a continuous basis over a period of several years.


The sheriff also says Buzie’s mother, 50-year-old Mandie Brown of Otego, knew about the abuse but did not intervene. According to the Otsego County Sheriff, Brown allegedly gave Buzie access to the abused children until his arrest on Friday, July 19.

On Friday, Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies located Buzie and Brown and took them into custody without further incident. Both defendants were transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility in Cooperstown to await arraignment.

Buzie is accused of:

  • Two counts of sexual assault, a class A-II felony,
  • Two counts of sexual assault of a child, a class A-II felony,
  • Two counts of first-degree incest, a class B felony,
  • Two counts of first-degree sexual assault, a class B felony,
  • Two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony,
  • One count of first-degree rape, a Class B felony,
  • Two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony,
  • Two counts of forcible touching, a Class A misdemeanor, and
  • Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.

Brown is accused of:

  • Four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.

Due to the extent of the abuse, Otsego County Child Protective Services was contacted and four children were removed from the Otego home. The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and has recommended bail of $10,000 cash or credit card and $100,000 bail for Buzie.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, additional charges are pending.
