Accused “serial rapist” arrested again in Palm Beach – WFTV

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A man once likened by a judge to a serial rapist is back in custody after a woman said he raped her Tuesday.

Vincent Laing Jr. was accused of meeting the prostitute in a house under construction and forcing her to have sex with him with a knife.

The woman said Laing recorded the hour-long encounter and gave her $20 as she left.

The details are similar to previous cases that came to light in August. Laing was accused by two women of raping them at knifepoint at an Orlando apartment complex.

He was initially denied bail, but was released from prison in February. His lawyers argued the state had not presented enough evidence to hold him before trial. His bail was set at $125,000.

“Anytime something like this happens it’s disappointing because it means another person has been hurt,” prosecutor Andrew Bain said hours after Laing’s arrest.

Bain confirmed that his team was reviewing three additional cases, which could mean more charges could be filed.

However, Bain said one of the August cases had to be dropped due to a lack of evidence.

This added to the claims of Laing’s lawyers, who said they were confident they could defend him.

“The short headline ‘Arrested for Filling Out’ doesn’t tell the true story,” said Joshi Law attorney Deborah Barra. “We are committed to telling the true story.”

Barra and her co-counsel Rajan Joshi said the remaining case in Orlando is weak.

“The victim has a lot of credibility issues. She was caught lying in the case and there are many loopholes in the investigation,” said Joshi. “(Just because) several people say our client did this doesn’t mean he was guilty of anything.”

The Orlando women reportedly told police they did not know Laing before the attacks. Police said all five of his victims met him either through online personal ads he responded to or through social media messages.

Laing is expected to be held until his cases are resolved and will likely be returned to Orange County to face his accusers.
