Spokane officers arrest domestic violence suspect after car alarm in Otis Orchards

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Sheriff’s officials have arrested a suspect for violating domestic violence orders.

On July 21, around noon, Spokane County Sheriff’s officials were called after receiving a report of a suspicious car traveling in Otis Orchards near the state line.

Officials said dispatchers were informed that probable cause had been established to arrest the registered owner of the car, a black 2005 Chevy Colorado. They also stated that the registered owner, the suspect, had previously told officers that if contacted, “he won’t go back to jail and it will end in a shootout.”

SCSO said they continued to search for the car but were unable to locate it. Officers then said domestic violence (DV) orders listed two people as protected parties and a protected address on E. Woodland Park Drive, where the suspected driver is prohibited from knowingly entering, remaining in, or being within 1,000 feet of the home.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., a deputy observed the suspect driver of the black Colorado vehicle whose license plate was listed on the report in front of the protected address on Woodland Park Drive. A man matching Remington’s description exited the vehicle and walked away, turning toward the deputy and the fully marked patrol car.

The deputy maintained his view while the other deputies rushed to help, as Remining had previously threatened a “shootout” if police contacted him.

Officers said the suspect walked south on Jenson Road and turned back toward the patrol car. Knowing officers were nearby to assist him, the officer turned on his hazard lights and approached Remington. The officer verbally confirmed the suspect’s name and advised that he was being arrested. Officers said the suspect paced back and forth and yelled in frustration.

When additional officers arrived, the man was given instructions, which he followed and was safely taken into custody.

The suspect was informed of his rights and admitted that he was aware that he was not allowed to go closer than 300 meters to the guarded residence.

The man was taken to the Spokane County Jail and booked on domestic violence violations with assault and three minor domestic violence order violations.
