AEDC makes new appointment after TCN suspends DisCo

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced that Eng. Chijioke Okwuokenye has been appointed as Acting Managing Director with immediate effect.

With this appointment, which is part of the company’s transformation plan, Eng. Okwuokenye will drive AEDC’s positioning as a leading, customer-centric power distribution company in the Nigerian energy industry.

In a statement, Adefisayo Akinsanya, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at AEDC, said that prior to assuming this role, he served as the organisation’s Chief Operating Officer, managing integrated generation projects and strategic support units.

According to Independent.ng, he brings extensive experience and knowledge of the energy industry to the position and is also determined to unlock the potential of the Nigerian electricity industry.

Commenting on the appointment, CEO Dr. Stanley I. Lawson said:

“Chijioke Okwuokenye is an experienced leader who has been part of the company’s transformation agenda and is well-suited to drive the company’s turnaround. I am confident that with his technical and commercial background, he will continue to create value for all AEDC stakeholders.”

The company also announced the appointment of Olumide Jerome as Chief Operating Officer.

Previously, he held the position of Chief Business Officer of the Group and has taken on new responsibilities that include driving efficiency and operational excellence within the organization.

While TCN is a federal company that transports electricity generated by power generation companies to power distribution companies across the country, AEDC supplies electricity to the National Capital Territory, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states.

The transmission company, in the suspension order bearing the number TCN/ISO/MO/2024/002, alleged that TCN had not obtained adequate bank guarantee from the distribution company in Abuja, which was contrary to electricity market regulations.
