LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KPLC) – There were plenty of clouds around SWLA on Monday, with most of the rain falling earlier in the day.

Rain chances will be well above normal through next weekend as a low pressure system is located aloft in our area. This provides additional lift, making it easier for clouds and rain to form.

Rain will be widespread, although there will still likely be frequent breaks between areas of rain. That said, it won’t rain all day every day across SWLA. However, rain is possible at any time of day or night, so keep an eye on the radar with our First Alert Weather app.

In terms of precipitation, we could expect 1 to 4 inches of rain over the next 4 to 6 days, with higher amounts possible in some areas. The risk of flooding is low, but not zero. This is most likely in urban areas if too much rain falls in a short period of time.

Fortunately, the tropics are calm and there are no signs of this changing, at least for the next week! A lot of Saharan dust is moving across the Atlantic and this is making it difficult for tropical systems to form.
