Body found in wooded area in Smithville

Smithville police are investigating after a body was found in a wooded area near 194th Terrace on July 21. Police say a search warrant was subsequently executed on a nearby residence, with assistance from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas City Crime Scene Unit. The identity of the deceased is being determined by investigators in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
