People from Fallsburg arrested during the investigation into a reported stabbing.

SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — On July 7, Fallsburg police were called to a Gulf gas station in South Fallsburg for a report of a large fight. Upon arrival, patrol spoke with several people on scene and alleged that a male victim had been stabbed in the lower back.

The victim was examined by Mobile Medic EMS at police headquarters and then transported to Fallsburg High School, from where he was flown by Medivac to Westchester Medical Center for further medical treatment.

After further investigation by Fallsburg Police Detectives, the alleged suspects in the incident were identified as Milton Matteo Romero and Effrain Petzoy Sancoy. Both individuals were taken into custody and charged with second degree assault, a felony, and Petzoy Sancoy was also charged with fourth degree illegal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. Arraignments were conducted in the City of Fallsburg Court by the Honorable Judges Kaminski and Scheinman, and both individuals were remanded to the Sullivan County Jail to appear again in the City of Fallsburg Court at a later date.

Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed criminal violations and are not proof of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial in which it is the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
