Concord cyclist killed – NBC Boston

A woman was killed by a driver whose license was suspended and who may have been on the phone at the time of the crash Saturday in Bedford, Massachusetts, authorities said.

The woman, a 53-year-old from Concord, was pushing her bike along Concord Street at the intersection with the Reformatory Bike Path when she was struck by a Volkswagen GTI at about 3:36 p.m., according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Bedford police. The driver of the car, a 34-year-old man from Billerica, remained at the scene of the accident.

The woman was taken to Lahey Hospital but was later pronounced dead, officials said Monday. Neither she nor the driver were publicly identified.

According to prosecutors and police, the driver has been charged with driving on a suspended license and using a cell phone while driving; his record has been placed on the Register of Motor Vehicles and he is scheduled to appear in Concord District Court.

Previously, Bedford police had only reported a serious accident that had closed the road.

State and local police investigations into the incident were still ongoing Monday afternoon, officials said.
