When appearing on the Distracted with Annie and Nick In a podcast, the 32-year-old “Stay With Me” singer revealed that she “couldn’t walk for a month” after tearing her ACL in a skiing accident earlier this year. Sam was seen wearing a knee brace while out in New York City in January.

An ACL injury is “a tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) – one of the strong bands of tissue that connects your thigh bone (femur) to your shin bone (tibia),” according to the Mayo Clinic.

“It is located between the bones and helps you jump and hop around,” Sam explained. “It completely tore and I chose the non-surgical route, but I couldn’t walk with that leg for a month and it was horrible.”

“It was the first time I couldn’t move and was carrying a bit of weight around with me,” Sam added. “I was very nervous. I used it as an excuse to pull myself together.”
