Bring on the chance of rain!

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – After cooler temperatures and much-needed rain arrived in Eastern Kentucky over the weekend, rain chances will continue throughout the rest of the week.

Headlines:

-The probability of rain and thunderstorms remains

-The maximum values remain within the normal range, but …

-A hint of above-normal temperatures

DISCUSSION:

After experiencing highs of around 27 degrees and some much needed rain this weekend, rain chances are set to continue throughout the rest of the week. That’s the good news, the bad news is that thunderstorm chances are also forecast. The other side of the bad news is: any areas that experience multiple heavy rains may experience localised flooding, which is why flood warnings were in place in parts of the watch area over the weekend.

LOOKING AHEAD:

Let’s go through the week; highs will be around normal. Some places will stay a little below normal, but our humidity will be high again.

Tuesday, Thursday is the period to keep an eye on. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be the norm during this period. We could also see widespread rain at times. It will also remain warm and humid, with highs between 27 and 30 degrees. As mentioned, if there are several heavy rains, there could be localized flooding as the ground is so dry that the precipitation has nowhere to go. This is something the First Alert Weather Team will be monitoring over the next few hours and days.

The 8-14 day temperature trend takes us through August 5th and keeps all of Eastern Kentucky above normal, so our pattern again shifts to the other end of the spectrum. In terms of the 8-14 day precipitation forecast, we remain wetter than normal.
