UniAbuja ASUU suspends strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has announced the immediate suspension of its 82-day strike.

Union leader Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh announced the suspension of the strike on Monday at a press conference at the end of the congress in Abuja.

He said the strike was suspended after the union negotiated with the university’s new governing board, which promised to review all of the union’s demands and offer solutions to them.

Blueprint recalls that the union began an indefinite strike on May 2, 2024 to protest, among other things, the violation of existing laws, including the hiring and promotion of employees in the absence of a board of directors.

Other problems included the illegal advertising of the Vice-Chancellor vacancy by the then government under Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah and appointments without due process.
