Omar Minaya’s wife Rachel found dead at home – NBC New York

The wife of 65-year-old former Mets general manager Omar Minaya was found suddenly dead in the couple’s New Jersey home on Monday, authorities said, but they do not currently suspect foul play.

Minaya, who currently works in a front office role with the Yankees, was not at their Harrington Park home when his 55-year-old wife, Rachel, was found unconscious around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police.

About an hour later, her death was confirmed in the hospital.

The Bergen County District Attorney said his office is investigating.

The circumstances do not appear suspicious, but a decision on the cause and manner of death is still pending, say investigators. They are not releasing any further information at this time.

Further information is expected to be released as soon as it becomes available.

Omar Minaya, 65, was with the Mets starting in the mid-1990s. He worked his way up to assistant general manager behind Steve Phillips and later became the first Latino to hold a general manager job in MLB with the Expos. He returned to the Mets after the 2004 season and made notable signings, including Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran. After some organizational restructuring and a stint with the Padres, Minaya landed back with the Mets in 2017.

He was fired two hours after Steve Cohen purchased the team. He joined the Yankees as a senior adviser for baseball operations in January 2023.

Minaya was selected by the Athletics in the 1978 MLB Draft, but his playing career was short.
