BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was sentenced Monday to more than 20 years in prison in connection with a 2023 shooting that left one person dead and another injured, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 5, Jerry Simpson, 30, shot and killed Jermaine Underwood, 37, with an illegal weapon in the 900 block of Kensington Avenue. The second victim, a 31-year-old man, was shot in the legs. He was treated and released from ECMC.

Simpson originally pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter on May 16, 2024. He was sentenced Friday to 23 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
