Purvis man arrested for aggressive driving and shooting in Hattiesburg

A Purvis man was arrested in connection with a DUI incident in Hattiesburg that resulted in shots being fired at a tractor-trailer.

Tate Rutland, Hattiesburg police spokeswoman, said police were called to the 6700 block of U.S. 49 on July 20 in reference to the incident. A witness told police the driver of a passenger vehicle at the scene fired several shots at the semi-truck, hitting the cab, passenger and radiator of the truck.

No injuries were reported.

Shortly after the shooting, 53-year-old Denton Temple of Purvis volunteered to Hattiesburg police and admitted his involvement in the incident. He is charged with one count of aggravated assault: use of a deadly weapon, one count of shooting at a motor vehicle and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Temple was taken to the Forrest County Correctional Facility, where he remained in custody as of July 22.
