Man arrested after gunshot wound outside grocery store in Miami-Dade

MIAMI DADE COUNTY, Florida. – A 25-year-old man was arrested over the weekend following a shooting outside a Miami-Dade County grocery store that left one person seriously injured.

According to the suspect’s police report, the shooting occurred shortly after 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning outside the Davis Grocery, 21630 SW 120th Ave.

Miami-Dade police said their officers arrived in the area after receiving two ShotSpotter alerts.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found over 100 spent bullet casings on the street and the victim, Tristum Hobbs, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his back.

Hobbs was subsequently taken to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition.

According to the report, a nearby house was also hit by at least one bullet that entered a bedroom where a woman and her daughter were sleeping.

According to police, surveillance video was obtained from the grocery store showing a white and a black sedan traveling north on Southwest 120th Avenue before coming to a stop at the intersection with 216th Street.

According to police, people from both vehicles then began shooting at the victim, who was standing near the intersection.

According to the report, officers later found the black car parked in front of the Princeton Groves Apartments.

“The vehicle had damage to the roof and front consistent with gunshot wounds,” the report said.

Police said a detective had surveillance of the vehicle and arrested the suspect, Glenn Roy Cassis Jr. of Miami, when he got out of the car around 5:50 a.m.

Cassis had a Glock 17 with an extended magazine in his waistband, authorities said.

According to the report, Cassis was taken to the police station for questioning and made a confession of sorts, but it was removed from the publicly available report.

However, police confirmed that Cassis denied firing a weapon.

Cassis was arrested for attempted murder, shooting or throwing a deadly projectile, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

As of Monday morning, Cassis has been held without bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

It is unclear how many people are still at large.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
