Houston Texans Update: RB Cam Akers Joins Team from Vikings

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans have made their decision official after rumors swirled in recent days. Free agent running back Cam Akers is joining the team.

Akers joins Houston from the Minnesota Vikings, where last year he had 60 carries for 167 yards and two touchdowns.

He joins a backfield that includes Texans freshman Joe Mixon, who came to Houston from Cincinnati in the offseason, and Dameon Pierce, who has been with the Texans for two seasons.

Akers is entering his sixth season in the NFL. He was a second-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2020 out of Florida State and played four seasons there before joining Minnesota for one season. Over his career, Akers has 398 carries for 1,581 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. He is averaging four yards per carry.
