Two dead after two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in west Sioux City

SIOUX CITY – Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred late Sunday night in a Westside neighborhood.

On Sunday at approximately 9:15 p.m., investigators responded to a report of an accident that occurred at the corner of W. Third and Rebecca Street. According to preliminary information, a 2000 Chevrolet truck was traveling eastbound on W. Third at a high rate of speed. The truck reportedly struck a 2008 Volkswagen that was crossing the intersection northbound on Rebecca Street.

The driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Volkswagen was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Two other passengers in the Volkswagen were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet truck was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. A truck passenger was also transported with minor injuries.

Sioux City Police say this incident remains under investigation.
