The probability of storms increases daily, the best chances are at the end of the week

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Our typical South Carolina summer weather pattern continues this week with high humidity and daily showers and storms. We welcome this pattern with open arms, especially given the ongoing drought.

TODAY

Many of you have already been affected by rain showers and thunderstorms this morning. We will use these isolated thunderstorms for the morning commute before finally taking a short break in the morning.

THIS WEEK

A high pressure system to the east will continue to pump in southerly winds, bringing tropical moisture to the Carolinas throughout the week. Combined with a stagnant front to the northwest, this will ensure showers and storms every day.

There will continue to be rain showers and thunderstorms every day, with the best chances being on Thursday and Friday.

The best chances are along the sea breezes each afternoon or other edges left over from previous storms. Each day the storm chances look different. The latest data suggests storms are possible anytime this week, with the best chances looking a little more likely on Thursday and Friday.

THIS WEEKEND

New data this morning continues to point to some thunderstorms during the first half of the weekend before a short break. Saturday looks wet, with the daily chance of storms still at 40%. If we’re lucky, enough rain has fallen this week to end the ongoing drought.

There is a chance of drier weather towards the end of the weekend and over the next few days.

Regardless, we will expect slightly lower rain chances starting Sunday and into early next week. While it’s nice to have some dry time, we also know that many areas could use some additional rainy days.

The latest data from this morning is extensive. 3-5 inches of rain is possible through Sunday IF we are lucky enough to notice the showers and storms. Remember, this is over a seven day period. There will be places where less rain is expected.
