The man who killed a police officer in the Detroit area may be dangerously armed

According to police, 44-year-old Michael Lopez is considered armed and dangerous.

MELVINDALE, Michigan – A police officer is dead and a suspect is on the run after a shooting Sunday afternoon in the Detroit suburb of Melvindale.

Melvindale police said 23-year-old police officer Mohamed Said was shot and killed by 44-year-old Michael Lopez.

Police are still searching for Lopez, who was last seen riding his bike shirtless.


Police also released a picture of the tattoos on his arm and wrist.

He is considered armed and dangerous.


According to the Detroit Police Department’s memorial page, Said just graduated from the police academy last year.

Anyone with information is asked to call Melvindale Police.

This is the second police officer killed in the line of duty in southeast Michigan in the last month. Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputy William Butler was shot and killed in late June.
