North Texas sergeant killed in off-duty motorcycle crash – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the death of one of its sergeants who was killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident this weekend.

Sergeant II Daniel VanHuss, who worked for the sheriff’s office for 15 years, died Sunday, July 21, from serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident, authorities said on social media.

VanHuss started working for the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office in 2009. Two years later, he was promoted to deputy and in 2013 to corporal. He was promoted to sergeant that same year.

According to the sheriff’s office, VanHuss worked in the Criminal Investigation Division, DEA Task Force and Street Crimes Unit. Daniel was promoted to Sergeant II last week on July 15.

NBC 5 has not yet confirmed the details that led to the tragic accident.
