Man of Indian descent shot dead in suspected driving aggression incident in Indianapolis

A man of Indian descent was shot and killed in an alleged incident of driving aggression in Indiana on Tuesday, July 16. According to a USA Today report, the incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at an intersection in southeast Indianapolis.

The dead man was identified as 29-year-old Gavin Dasaur. Officers who arrived at the scene found Dasaur lying on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. Local television station WTHR cited witnesses saying the shooting appeared to be an incident of driving aggression involving the drivers of two vehicles – a black Honda and a white Chevy pickup.

When the altercation got out of control, the driver of the pickup truck shot at the other driver. The pickup truck was detained but later released after an investigation, reports said.

“After further investigation and after consultation with the Marion County District Attorney’s Office, this individual (the shooter) has been released,” police spokeswoman Amanda Hibschman told USA Today. The official said the shooter may have acted in self-defense.

According to Indian media channel NDTV, Dasaur was from the northern Indian city of Agra, famous for the Taj Mahal. On June 29, he married Mexican Viviana ZaMora.

Meanwhile, a video of the incident has gone viral on social media. According to the video, a man in a green T-shirt, identified as Dasaur, gets out of his car at the intersection and shouts at the driver of the pickup truck. He then hits the door of the pickup truck with the gun in his hand. The other man responds by shooting at him.
