Police investigate accident in north Phoenix in which man died

PHOENIX – Phoenix police are investigating a fatal three-car crash that left one man dead and two others hospitalized Saturday.

According to Phoenix police, officers responded to a crash near 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road shortly after 9 p.m. and found three injured adults.

After the emergency services arrived, the drivers of both vehicles were taken to a hospital.

One of the drivers, an adult male, was pronounced dead. Another driver, an adult female, remains hospitalized and in critical condition.

A third adult was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

How did the fatal collision occur?

Investigators believe a vehicle traveling westbound on Bethany Home Road and another vehicle turning onto Bethany Home Road from 19th Avenue collided.

The two vehicles were then pushed into oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a third vehicle traveling eastbound on Bethany Home Road.

The driver of the third vehicle died as a result of the accident.

According to initial investigations, impairment or speed are unlikely to play a role.

The investigation is still active.
