Mount Pleasant police investigate accident involving cyclist

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) – Mount Pleasant Police are investigating a crash involving a bicyclist and a car on the Ben Sawyer Causeway.

Police said in a post on X that the Ben Sawyer Causeway was closed in both directions for a short time around 5 p.m. Sunday. Lanes from Mount Pleasant to Sullivan’s Island were closed for nearly three hours while officers investigated the accident.

Department spokeswoman Sgt. Ashley Croy confirmed that the accident involved a cyclist and a car, but there was no update on the cyclist’s condition as of 10:45 p.m.
