Cornes calls for long ban for Eric Hipwood after ‘dangerous’ tunnel work

Kane Cornes has reprimanded Brisbane’s Eric Hipwood for dangerous tunnelling against Sydney’s Nick Blakey.

The contact caused the Swans star to land on his head. Cornes described it as one of the most dangerous actions he had seen on a football field in 2024.

“That was one of the most dangerous things I’ve seen this year. If you want to suspend Toby Bedford, and I don’t care about the Matrix and all the nonsense that comes with it, that was one of the most dangerous things I’ve seen on a football field,” he said. SEN breakfast.

“It was a tunneling action at a marking competition, Blakey had an unfortunate fall and could easily have fallen on his neck.

“The referees unforgivably did not even award it as a free kick. They have to question themselves.”

“The AFL cannot accept this and he should be suspended for a longer period of time, regardless of the MRO matrix.”

The Lions now prepare for the Q-Clash on Saturday afternoon and hope to end Gold Coast’s winning streak at home.
