PWHL Montreal’s Sarah Lefort was suspended one game for an illegal hit

The PWHL announced Thursday that it has suspended Montreal forward Sarah Lefort one game for conducting an illegal body check on Boston’s Jamie Lee Rattray during their May 4 game.

The incident occurred with five minutes left in the first period. There was no penalty for the game.

She will serve the penalty from Game 1 of the team’s playoff series against Boston, which takes place on Thursday night.

The league also announced two fines on Thursday. Minnesota forward Liz Schepers was fined $500 for a hit against New York in the May 4 game.

Montreal’s Melodie Daoust, who was activated by the club before Thursday’s game against Boston, was fined $250 for an altercation during their game against Boston on May 4. She was penalized for grabbing an opponent’s face mask during a scrum.

Montreal went 13-6-5 with 41 points in the regular season, placing second in the league. After first-place Toronto selected Minnesota in the first round, Montreal faced Boston. Game 1 of their best-of-five series begins Thursday at Place Bell in Laval, Que.

Toronto beat Minnesota 4-0 in Game 1 on Wednesday in front of 8,473 fans at Coca-Cola Coliseum. Blayre Turnbull scored twice and Natalie Spooner, the league’s top scorer and league leader, scored a goal of her own.
