Senator Jon Ossoff grills Postmaster General Louis DeJoy during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing on April 16, 2024.

ATLANTASen. Jon Ossoff is once again pressing Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on mail delivery performance in metro Atlanta.

The Georgia senator sent a letter to DeJoy on Thursday requesting an update on the regional processing and distribution center in Atlanta.

“It has been nearly a month since we spoke at the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing on April 16 regarding service outages at the Atlanta Regional Processing and Distribution Center in Palmetto” , wrote Senator Ossoff. “As we have discussed over the past few weeks, there is an urgent need for USPS delivery performance in Georgia to improve immediately.”

FOX 5 has been reporting delays in the mail service for months. At a hearing last month, DeJoy told a Senate committee that the on-time delivery rate for incoming mail was 36 percent. He added that it would take about 60 days to return to full service.

Ossoff is asking DeJoy to provide a report on the status of facilities and services in the area within a week.
