Police shoot man in domestic incident

Virginia Beach Police shot and killed a man with a crowbar and a metal bar while responding to a domestic incident Saturday night.

According to VBPD, officers responded to a 911 call in the 4100 block of White Beam Court at 7:02 p.m. regarding a reported stabbing incident.

Brand Hasbrouck22, confronted police officers on the scene, ignored orders to drop his weapons, resisted a taser and charged at police officers, who responded with deadly force.

According to police, several officers fired their weapons, hitting Hasbrouck, who died at the scene.

Three victims, not including Hasbrouck, were found in the residence. One was dead: Victoria Lane Hasbrouck58, of Virginia Beach. Two other victims were found inside; both were taken to a local hospital where they are in critical condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

There is currently no information on any other suspects in this incident. This incident is not believed to pose an ongoing threat to the community.

All VBPD officers who fired their firearms are uninjured and have been placed on routine administrative leave, which is common practice in such critical incidents.

The Homicide Division of the VBPD is conducting a criminal investigation into this incident. Upon completion, all evidence will be passed on to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth Attorney’s Officewhich will verify compliance with applicable legislation.

In addition to the VBPD investigation, the OCA conducts its own independent criminal investigation in parallel. After the criminal investigation is completed, the VBPD Internal Affairs Division conducts an administrative audit to verify compliance with department policies, procedures and training.
