Woman stabbed “multiple times” and almost thrown from balcony at Miami International Airport; man arrested

MIAMI – A woman is fighting for her life in the hospital after she was stabbed “multiple times” and nearly thrown from a balcony in an unprovoked attack at Miami International Airport late Saturday night.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., uniformed officers were called to the international arrivals area of Terminal J for a report of a stabbing.

Miami-Dade police said early Sunday morning that the woman and a man – Alexander Love, 29 – were on the fourth floor when he suddenly “attacked them by stabbing her multiple times and attempting to throw her over the railing.”

The woman was able to escape Love and ran down the stairs to the third floor, where officers found her. Additional officers arrested Love on the fourth floor and recovered the knife. No charges have been filed at this time.

A video provided to CBS News Miami shows the woman sitting in the waiting area and bleeding. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and transported the woman to JMH Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

A witness told CBS News Miami that several flights were arriving at the time of the incident and people either tried to help the woman or ran away when they heard what had happened.

“We heard a fight escalating,” the witness said. “And someone shouted, ‘Run!’ So there were literally 100 to 200 people in line because we had just gotten off the plane.”

Many who were there at the time of the attack were shocked that the attack occurred in such a crowded part of the airport.

“A lot of people said it was really scary to tell their kids to pick up their things and everyone ran,” another witness told CBS News Miami.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez told CBS News Miami that the airport briefly suspended operations in the area and evacuated Terminals J and H during the incident, but then resumed normal operations.

“While this was happening, some people were in the airport on business,” he said, “so it’s to be expected that there could be some kind of chaos.”

The airport also published a statement on the incident on X and reiterated that the situation at the terminal is now “under control”.

“We would like to reassure the public that the situation is under control and the safety of our passengers, employees and visitors remains our top priority,” MIA said. “The authorities responded immediately and the situation was quickly brought under control.”

Meanwhile, officers had also received reports of a possible active shooter on site, but after further investigation they were able to determine that this was not true.

Detectives are currently speaking with Love as the investigation continues. Police have not identified the woman or released any further details about the stabbing.
