Braves’ Ozzie Albies leaves game against Cardinals with injury

Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies left Sunday’s 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals with an apparent left wrist injury.

In the top of the ninth inning, with two men on base and two out, Cardinals center fielder Michael Siani stole second base as Albies attempted to apply the tag.

His glove clumsily hit Siani’s left shoulder and he quickly crouched down, grabbing his wrist.

Zach Short came in to replace Albies for the remainder of the game.

In 90 games this season, Albies is hitting .258 with a .717 OPS, eight home runs and 46 RBIs.

The injuries continue to mount for the Braves, and this is now another one of their most consistent faces in the lineup.

Earlier Sunday, the starting pitcher Max Fried added to injured list with neuritis of the forearm.

The Braves have also been without outfielder Michael Harris II with a hamstring injury for more than a month and superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

These are just two examples of the current injuries. Other players have been absent during the season.

As if things couldn’t get any worse for the Braves, they now head into the trade deadline with another key player presumably injured.

They already needed help in the outfield and in the rotation, and now they need help in the infield. The Braves have options in their system that could be able to replace Albies, such as Nacho Alvarez.

The Braves could also decide to play Zach Short, since he is already on the major league roster. He has already replaced Orlando Arcia at shortstop for a few games this season.

The Braves return to action Monday night when they host the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
