Bills Using Disrespect as Fuel Heading into 2024 Season

As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the new NFL season, there are plenty of new faces on the roster. Gone are the team’s stalwarts from years past, like Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, and Tre’Davious White, to name a few.

Buffalo underwent some big changes this offseason after failing to make the playoffs once again. With that, many began to see the Bills in a different light than the Super Bowl contender we’ve become accustomed to over the past few seasons.

Buffalo still has star quarterback Josh Allen at center, which gives the team a fighting chance every time. But with all of these changes, it’s reasonable to assume that Buffalo could take a step back.

However, Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins has no problem with people underestimating the team. In fact, he mentioned that they used it as fuel to motivate them heading into the season.

“Everybody’s shutting us out, which I have no problem with. We can fly under the radar and hit everybody with uppercuts. I’m totally fine with that, but I’m going to support these guys from a distance. It’s definitely different, and I’m still adjusting to it. I’m trying to respond to it, but I’m adjusting to it every day, because it’s different, man. It’s definitely different.”

In a loaded AFC, Buffalo will have its work cut out for it if it wants to get back into the playoffs. The easiest way is to win the AFC East, but the division should be even tougher this year.

The Miami Dolphins should be better, the New York Jets will have star quarterback Aaron Rodgers back from injury, and the New England Patriots will likely be more competitive.

Despite all the obstacles stacked against them, Dawkins isn’t counting the Bills out. He has confidence in this group and their ability to position themselves as the next player to take on the others in 2024.

“There’s a lot of players that aren’t here. But that’s the NFL,” Dawkins said during an appearance on NFL Network’s The Insiders. “Players come, players go, players have to be ready. I think no matter who’s in those positions, we know they’re going to give it their all. You know, like 14 (Stefon Diggs), 21 (Jordan Poyer), 23 (Micah Hyde), all those numbers might not have the same faces, but we’re shooting for the stars.”

For the Bills to achieve their lofty goals, Allen will have to play like the superstar he is. He may have to put in a Herculean effort this season, but Buffalo shouldn’t be completely overlooked. They will still have a say in how the conference plays out, but it will be more difficult for them this year than in previous seasons.
