One dead after being found in Elver Park retention pond

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Madison Fire Department confirmed one person has died after a body was found in a retention pond at the park.

Madison police and firefighters responded around 3:20 p.m. Thursday after a person saw a body in the water.

Madison Police Capt. Kelly Beckett said officers recovered the body of an adult from the retention pond.

A Lake Rescue team responded as well as the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. Captain Beckett stated that the coroner was still in the early stages of the investigation and could not comment on the cause or manner of death.

“This is a very, very rare call,” Captain Beckett said. “This doesn’t normally happen, so it’s very unusual for something like this to happen.”

No further information was available about the person’s identity.
