Father of local reporter killed in shooting at Florida jewelry store

Local Milwaukee reporter Pavlina Osta shared on social media on Sunday that her father was killed in a shooting at the family’s jewelry store in Florida.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Friday that 83-year-old John Craiger shot and killed Ghazi (Gus) Osta at Volusia Gold & Diamond. Craiger is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said the shooting appeared to be an argument between Osta and a customer, Craiger, rather than a robbery.

A GoFundMe page set up by the family confirmed that Osta was “the victim of a gruesome act of violence at the hands of a patron.” The family said an employee who shot and injured Craiger saved himself and two other employees.
