Probable starting pitchers and lineups for the Seattle Mariners-Houston Astros game, July 21

The Mariners are looking to salvage a game in this three-game series after dropping two close games to Houston. Seattle is still looking for an offensive breakthrough after having a tough month offensively. To win today, the Mariners need to find an offensive spark against Astros starter Ronel Blanco. Additionally, M’s starter Bryan Woo needs to find his groove and calm down a tough Astros lineup. Here are today’s starting lineups and probable pitchers:

Bryan Woo is hoping for a better performance after struggling in his first start in Anaheim on July 12. He allowed four runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings against the Angels. He has recovered from several frustrating injuries and has had a solid season overall. He has a 2.45 ERA and a 3-1 record with 29 strikeouts in 44 innings. Woo is looking for his first win since June 6 against the Oakland A’s.

Ronel Blanco has arguably been the Astros’ best pitcher this season. With a 2.56 ERA, 100 strikeouts and a 9-4 record in 18 starts this season, the Mariners had success against Blanco last May, scoring three runs on five hits and hitting Blanco for two home runs. The Mariners will need to take advantage of Blanco’s struggles to control opponents (he’s allowed 44 walks this year), as they did yesterday against Framber Valdez, to succeed against Blanco.
