Joe Mixon views the Texans in a similar light to the Super Bowl team

After winning the AFC South last season, the Houston Texans didn’t rest on their laurels. They could have welcomed the increased expectations and allowed their young talent to continue to grow.

But instead, management has decided to try to maximize the potential of the core group. After a breakout season from rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, Houston is hoping a Super Bowl run could be within reach fairly soon, if not next season.

Houston added some real veteran talent to the team, including star receiver Stefon Diggs and running back Joe Mixon. Diggs gives Stroud even more talent to work with at receiver, while Mixon is likely to give the Texans some new life in the backfield.

Mixon knows what it takes to help a young team reach the Super Bowl, which he did with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021. He views this Texans team in a similar light and reflects on it.

“I’ve been on a championship team before and I know what it’s like,” Mixon told reporters Friday. “I know what it takes to get there. I think we have — without a doubt — the best talent I’ve seen here in a long time. I honestly think the team we have here, I know we’re ready to go out there and make that long run.”

If Mixon can play at the level he has shown over the years, Houston will be in great shape. The passing game should be one of the best in the league, so Mixon will have some pressure on him to succeed.

Last season with the Bengals, Mixon threw for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns. He’ll likely have even more passing to do this year with Houston, and the Texans are very optimistic about his future.

“Yeah,” Mixon said when asked if he thinks he can finish among the top in carries in 2024. “Obviously, I feel like with the work I put in this offseason, I trained as hard as I could, honestly harder than I ever have before getting to this point. I feel very confident, like I said, in the role I’m going to play in this offense, and I’m going to embrace whatever comes with it. Like I said, I put in all the work this offseason, and next season is when I know it’s going to pay off.”

The Texans have no limits going forward. They have the tools to have major success next season and should be one of the best teams in the AFC. Houston may be young, but they are hungry and ready to prove themselves in the league.
