3 people arrested in connection with the death of a North Carolina man missing since 2021

SCOTLAND COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – Officials in part of North Carolina said three people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was last seen over three years ago.

In a Facebook post, Scotland County Sheriff Ralph Kersey said Michael Anthony Bethea Jr., Shelena Carter and LeKeithan Tyson were arrested Friday and charged in the death of Brandon Carl Wayne McDonald.

Kersey’s post said McDonald was last seen leaving his home in Claritin in March 2021. He was reportedly on his way to Laurinburg but was not seen again.

The case was reviewed again in May, which ultimately led to Friday’s arrests.

Bethea, Carter and Tyson are each charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and covering up a death.

All three were taken to the Scotland County Detention Center and are scheduled to appear in District Court on Monday.
