3 dead in wrong-way driver collision in southern Bexar County, SAPD reports

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – San Antonio police are investigating a fatal ghost crash that left three people dead early Sunday morning.

Officials said they received a call just before 2 a.m. that a pickup truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 37 in the southbound lanes near Loop 1604.

A few minutes later, the pickup truck, a Ford F150, collided head-on with a Ford Mustang, according to authorities. After the collision, the Ford F150 overturned and caught fire.

Three people were in the Mustang. Police said the driver died at the scene. A passenger in the back seat of the Mustang was later pronounced dead in a rescue unit.

A Mustang passenger sitting in the front seat was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but police do not yet know the severity of the injury(s).

San Antonio police said the driver of the F150 died in the fire.

The Bexar County Coroner will determine the identities of the three people killed in the collision.
