Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. dies at age 22

Cornerback from Utah State Andre Seldon, Jr. was found dead at the age of 22 on Saturday evening (July 20) after apparently drowning in a cliff diving accident, the Utah State Athletics Organization announced in a press release on its official website.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of a possible drowning accident at Porcupine Reservoir after a young man who was observed jumping off a cliff failed to resurface. The victim was identified as “a student-athlete at Utah State University.” School officials learned Seldon was found dead by a Utah Department of Public Safety dive team at 9:05 p.m. Saturday.

Seldon transferred to Utah State this summer after spending two seasons at New Mexico State University under the newly promoted USU interim coach and defensive coordinator. Nate Dreiling.

“Our football program is deeply saddened to have to deal with the loss of one of our members,” Dreilling said. “Having previously shared a relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you that he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this terrible loss.”
