A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to incite fear of violence.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called to a property on King Street, Exeter, at around 10.05pm (BST) on Saturday.

Armed forces and police negotiators were on site and a road closure was imposed.

After overnight negotiations, a 49-year-old man from Exeter was arrested and taken to hospital out of concern for his welfare, police said.

A police spokesman said they were aware that “there was some local disruption while this incident was brought to a safe conclusion.”

Officials urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and thanked residents for their “patience and understanding.”
