Mobile internet and bulk SMS services suspended in Haryana’s Nuh

Chandigarh, July 21 (IANS): Due to concerns over communal tensions, the Haryana government has suspended mobile internet and SMS services in the state’s Nuh district for 24 hours till 6 pm on Monday.

According to an official, the decision was taken to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation on social media ahead of a planned religious procession.

However, SMS messages relating to banking transactions and topping up mobile phone credit are exempt from blocking.

The official said measures have been taken to ensure peaceful celebration of the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra on Monday.

Strict surveillance of the procession through drones has already been imposed; weapons, lathis and loudspeakers are banned.
