FIA modifies Hungaroring Turn 5 after Yuki Tsunoda’s accident

He gave us a real scare. During the third qualifying session, Yuki Tsunoda went off the track at turn 5, the uphill right-hander before the second sector chicane. The Japanese driver went off the track on the grass area set up by the FIA ​​on the sidelines of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The VCARB ran aground in the barrier and then continued into the gravel of the next chicane. The driver emerged from the accident uninjured, but it raised questions about the safety of this corner.

The FIA ​​​​took immediate action to address the issue, removing around five metres of grass from the end of the track and replacing it with gravel to prevent further incidents of this kind during the race.

In the violent accident, Yuki Tsunoda’s single-seater was largely destroyed. Engine parts were not damaged in the accident. The Japanese driver will not be penalized and will start from tenth place on the grid.
