Woman arrested in connection with early morning stabbing

Savannah Lashay Neal, 25, of Hudson Street in Morganton was arrested by Morganton Public Safety officers today (July 21) on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, criminal damage to property and driving under the influence.

Today, shortly after At 12 p.m., officers from the Morganton Department of Public Safety were dispatched to UNC Health Blue Ridge for a report of a stabbing. The incident occurred at a residence within the city limits of Morganton.

Officers interviewed the victim and identified a suspect and the location of the incident. En route, Burke County Communications notified officers that the suspect had called and wanted to speak with them from a location outside of city limits. The suspect was located by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and identified as Savannah Lashay Neal. Further investigation led to Neal being arrested and charged. According to police reports, she was arrested at 3:30 a.m.

No details were released about the victim’s condition. Neal was held for 48 hours and was scheduled to appear in court on September 27 on the stabbing charges. He was released from custody on October 7 and was scheduled to appear in court on the DUI charges. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
