Investigation underway after toddler found dead in parked vehicle in East Hanover

EAST HANOVER, NJ– The Morris County District Attorney’s Office is working with local law enforcement to investigate the tragic death of a six-month-old infant found in a parked vehicle in East Hanover.

The incident occurred on July 17 at approximately 1:30 p.m. when East Hanover police responded to a 911 call regarding a pediatric patient standing in a vehicle in a parking lot near South Ridgedale Avenue and Route 10. Despite paramedics’ efforts to provide life-saving aid, the infant was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. The child’s mother was also transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Preliminary findings suggest that the toddler was left unattended in the vehicle before his death. However, a final determination of the cause and manner of death is still pending.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, along with the East Hanover Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.

  • Silver Spring resident wins $30,000 on Mega Millions after decades of gambling

    SILVER SPRING, MD—A longtime Maryland Lottery participant from Silver Spring known only as “John Doe” has won a $30,000 prize in the Mega Millions drawing. This significant win marks a high point in his long-standing involvement with the lottery.

    John Doe has participated in many different lottery games since the Maryland Lottery was introduced, including scratch cards, Keno, Racetrax, Mega Millions and Powerball. He describes playing the lottery as a fun form of entertainment, especially as he gets older. He buys lottery tickets every Sunday and then plays them throughout the week.

    The winning ticket came from Old World Favorites on International Drive in Silver Spring, where he had spent $18 on tickets for the Mega Millions drawings on June 11 and 14. The win was confirmed when a 3X Megaplier tripled his original third-tier prize of $10,000 from the June 14 drawing.

    Although they missed the $3 million second-tier prize by just one number, John Doe and his wife are overjoyed with their unexpected $30,000 win. They plan to use the money to pay bills and finance a cruise around Europe, giving them a well-deserved break from everyday life.

    When asked about his future in the lottery, John Doe remained enthusiastic. The near-win of an even bigger prize continues to motivate him and he intends to keep playing. “It’s fun!” he said, emphasizing how much he enjoys participating in lottery games.

  • Police and federal authorities in Stamford arrest suspected drug dealer

    STAMFORD, CT– An extensive drug investigation by the Stamford Police Department (SPD) Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit in cooperation with the DEA-Bridgeport Residence Office and other federal and local authorities has resulted in the arrest of Edwin Abrams, a suspected drug trafficker in Fairfield County.

    Abrams, born September 14, 1981, was taken into custody on July 17, 2024, after investigators observed him conducting a suspected drug transaction outside his residence at 335 Wells Street, Apartment #4 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This arrest followed an extensive investigation into Abrams’ activities involving the sale of fentanyl and cocaine throughout the area.

    During the arrest, police seized $10,693 in cash from Abrams. A subsequent search of his home uncovered another $1,313, approximately 112 grams of cocaine, 73 grams of fentanyl, and packaging materials and scales commonly used in drug trafficking.

    Abrams was charged with three counts of drug trafficking and is currently in SPD Prison with bail set by the court at $100,000. Since he is on probation until 2030, he was also remanded in custody.

    The SPD Narcotics & Organized Crime Unit has thanked the DEA-Bridgeport Residence Office, the FBI-Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force and the Bridgeport PD for their assistance in this operation. Abrams has multiple drug convictions since 1998, underscoring the importance of his recent arrest in curbing local drug trafficking.
