British woman and her husband found dead in boat after attempting to cross Atlantic | World News

Sarah Packwood and Brett Clibbery were found on a raft washed ashore on Canada’s Sable Island, local media reports. Mr Clibbery’s son confirmed they had “regrettably passed away”.

A couple who had set out on an Atlantic crossing were found dead in a lifeboat off the coast of Canada.

Brett Clibbery and Sarah Packwood were found after their raft washed ashore on Sable Island, about 108 miles southeast of mainland Nova Scotia, local media reported.

It is believed that Mrs Packwood was from the UK and Mr Clibbery from Canadaalthough the Royal Canadian Mounted Police initially reported that they were both from British Columbia.

Formal identification is still pending.

The couple were en route to the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal, and left Halifax Harbour on June 11 aboard their yacht, named Theros, Canadian police said.

The couple was reported missing on June 18 and found three weeks later on July 10.

In a post on Facebook, Mr Clibbery’s son James confirmed the couple’s deaths.

“The last few days have been very hard,” he wrote.

“My father James Brett Clibbery and his wife Sarah Justine Packwood have sadly passed away.

“The investigation is ongoing and a DNA test needs to be done to confirm, but with all the news coming in it’s hard to keep hope alive.”

He said the couple would be “missed forever,” adding: “There is nothing that can fill the void left by their unexplained deaths.”

Ms. Packwood and Mr. Clibbery documented their journey from Canada to Europe, regularly uploading videos to a YouTube channel called Theros Adventures.

They called their latest adventure “Green Odyssey,” a reference to the fact that the yacht is powered by a battery from a Nissan Leaf electric car and six solar panels.
