Afghans stop fruit and vegetable exports to Pakistan – Pajhwok Afghan News

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Export of fresh fruits and vegetables from Afghanistan to Pakistan has been suspended for two weeks.

The Afghan-Pakistani Chamber of Commerce attributed the suspension to a massive increase in customs tariffs by Islamabad.

In the wake of the increase in tariffs on fresh fruit and vegetables, many Afghans complain that the tariff increase has made the export of fresh fruit more expensive for them.

As the Afghan export season begins, Pakistan is raising tariffs, claims Farooq Ahmadi, a businessman from the landlocked country.

“This time, the duty on tax-free fruits and vegetables has been increased by 18 percent,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, Dawn quoted Pakistani businessmen as confirming the tariff hike in the federal budget announced on June 10.

However, they said they had no knowledge of the suspension of trade with Afghanistan. They stressed that no information had been communicated to them in this regard.
