“What the hell are you doing…”: JD Vance attacks US Vice President Kamala Harris over loyalty remarks

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance attacked US Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday, accusing her of questioning his loyalty to the country. At a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Vance defended his record and attacked Harris, questioning her merits.

“Kamala Harris said something to the effect that I have no loyalty to this country. Well, I don’t know, Kamala, I served in the United States Marine Corps and built a business. What the hell did you do besides cash a check?” Vance told the crowd.

Vance’s comments were in response to Harris’ recent criticism of his stance on the 2020 election results. Harris had accused Vance earlier in the week of supporting former President Donald Trump’s plan to overturn the election. In a video released Wednesday, Harris said, “Make no mistake: JD Vance will only be loyal to Trump, not to our country,” ABC News reported.

The rally in Michigan was Vance’s first appearance with Trump since being chosen as his vice presidential candidate. It was also Trump’s first rally since the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania the week before.

During the rally, Vance dismissed media claims that Trump and the Republican agenda were “radical” and “dangerous,” and received a warm welcome from his supporters in Michigan, according to CNN.

Notably, Vance’s family did not attend the rally. He mentioned that his wife, Usha, went “on the town” in Grand Rapids with their children, ages 7, 4 and 2.

Former President Trump, who returned to the campaign trail days after accepting the Republican presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention, wore a smaller, beige patch on his ear. The rally followed an assassination attempt in which Trump was shot in the upper part of his right ear during an event in Pennsylvania.

Attendees at the Michigan rally wore T-shirts with Trump’s likeness, and many of the vendors outside the venue sold similar items. Last week’s shooting left one rally attendee dead and two seriously injured. The FBI identified the gunman as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, who was killed by Secret Service agents.
