17-year-old shot in Freeport, police say attack was ‘not random’ | MyStateline

FREEPORT, Illinois (WTVO) – Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire in Freeport Saturday morning, wounding a 17-year-old.

Police said they were alerted to the shooting by the Sound Thinking detection system (formerly ShotSpotter).


Officers arrived at the scene in the area of ​​Frank Street and Chicago Avenue around 12:01 a.m. and found the victim in a car damaged by gunshot wounds. He was taken to FHN Hospital for treatment and later released, authorities said.

Police said the incident was “not a random act of violence” and asked anyone with information about the crime to call 815-235-8222 to help arrest the attacker.
