Arrest made after homeless man shot in Hialeah – NBC 6 South Florida

An arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a homeless man in Hialeah.

According to investigators, Mohammed Rajaie Ali was taken into custody on Friday with the assistance of Miramar police.

Ali is the man seen on surveillance video getting out of his car in the area of ​​Palm Avenue and East 12th Street a week ago, police said, where Ali allegedly shot the homeless man as he slept on the ground outside a jewelry store, Joyeria Royal.

The 58-year-old victim was admitted to the Jackson Ryder Trauma Unit in critical condition but died on Thursday.

Surveillance video from the neighboring Palm Avenue Apartments, provided to NBC6, shows the suspected shooter walking out of a car parked in front of the apartment complex and onto the plaza. About 15 seconds later, a gunshot rings out.

A recently obtained surveillance video shows the moments before the shooting at a Hialeah mall on Friday morning.

The suspected shooter then runs back to the car, gets something out, and runs back to the square. About 20 seconds later, he runs back into his car and drives away.

The owner of Joyeria Royal said his security camera captured the entire incident from close up. He said the victim was a homeless man who usually sits outside the establishment and the shooter was someone who lives nearby.

Another local store owner also recognized the victim and said he was homeless and frequented the area.

Police have not confirmed these details.

Judy Rodriguez said she accidentally stumbled upon the victim and ran down the street to call 911.

“I went in that direction and saw the man lying on the ground,” Rodriguez said. “I saw the bleeding, didn’t go any closer and called 911.”

She said she ran to the gas station and asked for a phone because she didn’t have hers with her.

“I was scared,” she said. “People were walking by and no one was helping.”
